新宫是汕头市潮阳区城南街道的社区，在潮阳城区南部，处城乡结合部，面积1.5平方公里。村名得自村前的玄坛庙，清嘉庆年间新建此庙，村人以它认路，称新宫。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

据博雅地名网，村子始建于南宋端平二年（1235年），萧氏由莆田迁来，姚氏自古埕迁到后埠巷、大池头，后来江、黄、陈等姓也迁来开荒，旧称南熏香。1956年分出成立农业大队，1983年改为乡政府，1988年改设管理区并归西门居民区，1999年成立居委会。[1]

人口与经济[edit]

2009年社区总人口4701人，1325户，其中农业人口3709人。当年工业产值为3100万元，集体经济收入61.43万元，辖区有机电、印刷、服装等20多家企业，并建有占地3000多平方米的水果市场。[1][2]社区曾获2003至2005年度“汕头市文明社区”，2006年获广东省“生态示范社区”称号，2021年12月获2021年广东省卫生村称号。[1][2]
