湖头社区是广东省汕头市金平区月浦街道下辖的社区，由原湖头村改设，在汕头市区北郊，与潮州市交界。明清时这里是水路货物集散的墟市，称“湖头市”，又名“葫芦市”。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

村名的由来有两层：村昔日处于梅林湖的上游端，故称湖头市；相传村址形如葫芦，起初叫葫芦，1952年才按河流下游的俗称改作湖头。[1]

湖头原是海滨冲积地。据记载，五代时已有人来此定居并建了一座庵寺，后来重建时改名灵聚古庵；宋代陆续有人迁入，以渔耕为生，何、董、陈等姓随后迁来，形成村落。[2]宋代中期起各地商人到此经商，清乾隆时这里成为澄海十大贸易集市之一。[2]

1953年湖头、山沟、沟南、山兜四村并为铁西乡，1958年改铁西大队，1971年分出湖头大队，1984年为湖头乡，1993年称管理区，1996年改村委会，1998年改居委会，2002年改社区居委会。[2]同一处的另一版本把并乡写在1951年，并说清嘉庆时已是澄海十大集市之一，时间与上述不同，这里取概况页的写法。[1][2]

地理环境[edit]

社区东至潮汕公路，西到沟南村，南接月浦村，北至汕揭公路，潮汕公路、护堤路、汕揭公路穿过村前的集市。[2]

人口民族[edit]

2010年有居民525户、2438人。[2]

经济[edit]

耕地415亩，主要种水稻、地瓜和蔬菜；有工业用地100多亩，产业有印刷包装、食品、化工和制鞋，部分产品销往东南亚、非洲。[2]社区集体年收入约145万元，主要来自土地承包款。[2]

名胜古迹[edit]

村里的天后古庙是清雍正十二年（1743年）开始修建的。[2]

荣誉[edit]

湖头社区在2017年10月入选首批广东省卫生村，由省爱国卫生运动委员会公布。[1]
