公明社区在光明区公明街道中部，是街道办事处所在地，也是街道的商业和文化中心，居民小区与企业混杂。[1] 社区建于1984年3月，2004年7月改制后沿用现名。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

社区的前身是公明镇的居委会：1983年宝安县公明公社改称公明区，次年区下增设乡级的公明镇，由它管理中心区和居民事务；1986年6月公明区改名公明镇，镇下有17个村，外加一个居委会，也就是公明社区居委会。[2] 1993年1月宝安撤县设区，居委会属深圳市宝安区公明镇；2004年7月城市化改制，定名公明社区居委会，隶属公明街道。[2][1]

名称取自街道中心区的含义，「公道、光明」。[3]

人口与经济[edit]

百度百科称社区面积约2.7平方千米，约有5500名户籍居民，3.8万常住人口，另有流动人口12万左右。[1] 博雅地名网所录的较早数据则是面积0.23平方千米、16个居民小区、常住人口7985人，两处差别很大。[2] 2023年，社区在商圈里建立党建「共同体」，覆盖1500多家商铺。[1] 2020年12月，社区被评为广东省文明单位（2018至2020年度）；2022年3月被认定为首批深圳市绿色（宜居）社区。[1][2]

名胜古迹[edit]

社区内的公明老墟始建于1929年，百度百科说它是深圳保存较完整的历史文化街区之一，目前在推进活化利用。[1]
