博雅地名网记述：村子过去是个马园，「园」与「芫」谐音，所以叫马芫。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

马芫1949年设乡，1952年改为农会，随后转为初级社，1958年10月称大队，1988年称管理区，1998年建村。[1]

经济[edit]

博雅地名网载有约2009年前后的数据：285户、1040人，耕地625亩，种稻为主，集体经济收入来自南方电网的股份分红。[1]

荣誉[edit]

广东省爱卫会2023年5月授予马芫村「2022年广东省卫生村」称号；该村另在2019年9月公布的2018年广东省「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单上。[1]
