2005年，五四村、星光村、东升村三个村委会合并为南湖村委会；村名沿用了河源市南湖镇的名称。[1]

2019年9月，南湖村入选「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）创建单位」名单。[1]

据仁化县人民政府网站对董塘镇的介绍，南湖村是第四批「百千万工程」典型村，正开展人居环境和风貌整治提升。[2]
