历史沿革[edit]
社区成立于2002年6月1日，名称至今未变[1]。
名列2018年「广东省民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位的有新墟社区；2022年11月，广州市住建局评为「广州市2022年绿色社区」；2024年11月，获评「2024年广州市高质量就业社区（村）」[1]。
天河区文物保护单位名单中，员村街道有一处清末民初的碉楼，位于棠下新墟东街3号对面[2]。
