历史沿革[edit]
2002年1月18日，荔湾区接管西郊、坦尾和河沙三村，并成立了接收工作领导小组，为随后设立街道做准备。[7]同年3月，桥中街道成立。[1]
街道下辖的社区数目各处记载不一：维基百科列出东海、坦尾、河沙、恒海、颐和、长安六个社区；[6]百度百科记截至2021年10月31日辖7个社区；[1]广州本地宝2021年的居委会名单中，桥中街的七个社区是在上述六个之外加上江悦社区。[5]
地理环境[edit]
街道四面被珠江环绕，东面与南源街道、昌华街道隔江相望，南接石围塘街道，西邻佛山市南海区，北靠白云区。[1]大坦沙由牛牯沙、大坦沙、大坦尾三个小沙洲连成，[3]岛上有珠江大桥、白沙河大桥，广三铁路、广茂铁路和广佛公路经过。[2]
大坦沙的面积，百度百科记为3.55平方千米，[2]维基百科在另一处写作4.4平方公里；[3]街道的辖区面积则记为4.4平方千米。[1]
经济[edit]
百度百科引用的2011年数据：工业总产值10.22亿元，较2010年增长8.7%；农业总产值128万元；入库税金556万元。[1]
大坦沙的改造始于2009年，与新加坡方面合作；到2012年，全岛约355公顷开始成片改造，其中包括三个城中村的整体复建，以及污水处理厂的升级。[2]岛上设有地铁5号线、6号线车站，[2]2021年，广州呼吸中心在岛上投入使用。[2]

大坦沙是1963年评出的羊城八景之一「双桥烟雨」所在之地，2023年列入《广州市地名保护名录（第一批）》。[2]
