一说村因溪边多种杨梅而得名；另一说村中有一条小溪名梅溪坑，村因溪得名。[1][2]

村委会成立于2006年。[1]

梅溪村东邻百胜村，西与罾坪村相邻，北靠大岚头村，南面隔江与桐城街道的资国村相望。[1]
