湖头村位于霍童镇西北部，在镇驻地西北约1.8公里处，靠近霍童溪西北岸。[1]

村头原有一片水面，原名仙湖，后演变为湖头。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

1958年成立大队，1964年分出，1984年改名为村委会。[1]

村中有一口清中期的古井，并保留传为隋末黄鞠所凿引水洞的遗迹，俗称蝙蝠洞。[1]

2024年1月，湖头村被命名为「2023年福建省卫生村」；2026年1月，被确定为「福建省2026年度乡村振兴示范村」。[1]
