寨背村位于湖洋镇西北部，离国道205线约3公里，与武平县武东乡、中堡乡接壤，境内多山地与丘陵。村名取意于村子坐落在山寨的背面。[1][4]

历史沿革[edit]

民国时此地设寨背保。解放初属信和区（第十一区）的寨背乡；1956年组建寨背高级社，同年8月至1958年9月改属附城区寨背乡。[3][5]

1958年10月改为湖洋公社寨背大队，1961年划入寨背公社，1965年回归湖洋公社，仍称寨背大队。1984年改为湖洋乡寨背村民委员会，2013年改属湖洋镇。原村委驻地在大埔岗，2009年新建村部后迁至下寨岗自然村。[3][5]

地理与人口[edit]

村域土地面积约1.01平方千米，耕地约1367亩，林地约8287亩。全村辖14个自然村、20个村民小组，共642户、2643人，其中18至60岁劳动力约900人（统计年份未注明）。[2]

村民以种养、外出经商务工和矿业开发为主，外出务工者约500人，相当于全村劳动力的55%。农户人均年收入约6000元，比全县平均水平低。享有农村低保的村民有53人。[2]

村两委班子共6人，党员66人，村民代表45人，村民小组长20人。村支书同时是县第十六届人大代表。[2]
