东埔村东面有一片草坪地。龙岩方言把「坪」读作「埔」，这片坪地因此被称为东埔排，后简化为东埔。另一说法认为，村东方圆30多亩的「茹形」草坪是村名的来历。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

明代为铁石乡表政里的一处村落。解放前隶紫岗乡，解放初归东红区，其后历经红坊区、附城区的划分，1957年6月撤区并乡后归红坊乡。[1]

公社化后，村内设东埔大队，受红坊公社领导，1984年改设东埔村委会。[1]

东埔村于2021年11月获福建省爱卫办授予「2021年福建省卫生村」称号。2022年10月，东埔村又经省农业农村厅认定为「第二批福建省乡村治理示范村镇」。[1]
