下河村是梅岭镇下辖的行政村，位于镇政府驻地北部，沿诏安至宫口公路两侧。村子东临诏安湾的梅岭港港口，西至前江埭，东南邻林厝村，北至高坑村。村子包括下河、西河两个自然村，村委会驻下河。[1]

地名与历史沿革[edit]

村名取自驻地下河自然村。民国时属梅中乡；中华人民共和国成立后先属第一、第三区高霞乡，其后，1955年1月改隶桥东区高霞乡，此后，1956年划入四都区傅厝乡，接着，1958年归东方红人民公社下河管理区。[1]

1961年为桥东区下河公社下河大队，其后，1964年4月属桥东公社，此后，1978年1月复归下河公社，接着，1982年属梅岭公社。其后，1984年10月起由梅岭乡的下河村委会管理，此后，1991年起称现名。[1]

自然环境与生计[edit]

村子地处沿海平原，何氏聚居，聚落呈长方形。村民讲闽南话，分为14个村民小组，全村1286户、5102人。耕地约1216亩，主种水稻、地瓜与花生。[1][2]

渔业以海水养殖对虾为主，养殖面积约640亩，另有鲍鱼场2个与育苗场3个。渔船有三排船18只、铁壳船8只，另有放笼船55只。下河墟历来是沿海渔产品、农产品与生产生活资料的集散地，沿公路两侧形成商业街，村内有百余户从事服务行业。[1]

村内有小学一所，医疗室四所。村子通汽车，设有班车停靠站。[1]
