北桥村是赤湖镇政府驻地所在的行政村，村名取自它地处赤湖城北门一带的位置。[1][3]

村中陈姓为多。1984年改为北桥村时，辖北桥、桥尾萧两个社。北桥村于2022年12月获「2022年福建省卫生村」称号，命名单位为福建省爱国卫生运动委员会。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

明代，北桥属十五都赤湖里，清代属赤湖保。1934年推行保甲制度时，因地处赤湖城北门，此地设北门保，隶属赤湖联保；联保于1940年改为赤湖乡后，北门保仍归其管辖。[2]

新中国初期，北桥属第六区赤湖镇。1958年9月并入赤湖公社协力大队；1962年9月，它另立为北桥大队，1984年才改称北桥村。[2]

村中陈姓是主要姓氏，据称多为南宋道明祖长子孟业的后裔，属开漳圣王派，另有少数李姓、康姓。[2]
