锡坑村位于龙湖镇中山街西南，村域在阳溪之南，龙英公路绕村东侧而过，下辖1个自然村。[1][2]

村名古称薛坑，又作锡里，旧称因地势低回、四面山脊环绕，村舍藏于山坑之中。[2][3]

地名由来[edit]

旧时吴姓率先在这一带的山坡与低洼处建居，村名曾写作薛坑；《锡里吴氏家谱》以“薛即锡也”解释这一名称。[2][3]

1981年地名普查时，名字一度标准化为“昔坑”，后又恢复为锡坑。[2]

历史沿革[edit]

宋代属安仁乡弦歌里，明清时为十七、十八都的一部分；1944年，该村改属至善乡南湖保。[2]

1956年划入湖北乡；1961年归龙湖公社管辖；1985年另设锡坑村委会，1991年改隶龙湖镇。[2]

人口民族[edit]

村里吴姓聚居，是南吴八乡之一。[2][3]

据村史，明末清初有村人迁往台湾台南，此后的后裔遍布台南、云林与菲律宾，人数达数千。[3]

文化[edit]

锡坑是泉南提线木偶的一个流派，曾有“六美班”的演出阵容，剧目以征战戏、神魔戏为主。[3]

锡坑米粉历史悠久，全盛时期村中有十几家米粉厂，菲律宾的华裔至今仍爱食用。[3]
