地名由来[edit]

旧时四周青山环绕，中有一湾湖水，邻村民众迁至湖口建居，村名湖头。村址在龟湖、碧湖之上。[2]

侨乡[edit]

清代起，村民陆续赴新加坡、马来西亚、菲律宾谋生，是闽南侨乡之一。[2]
