沟头社区隶属梅岭街道，处于晋江市区中心，面积约0.5平方千米。[1]

地名由来[edit]

此地原为近海滩涂，陈埭一带围垦筑堤后，滩涂中的沟汊成为溪流；本地恰处于一条沟汊的上游水口，遂名沟头。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

宋代隶属永宁乡和风里，明清时属二十九都。1956年归池店区苏厝乡，1959年设苏厝公社沟头大队，两年后改由陈埭公社辖下的苏厝大队管理。[1]

2003年11月，街道办事处设立，沟头由陈埭镇划出，并入梅岭街道，成为沟头社区居委会。[1]

姓氏宗族[edit]

社区居民以叶姓居多，王、林、庄、陈等姓氏也有居住。叶氏自仙游迁来，在此繁衍已六百余年。[1]

经济[edit]

社区历来以烧制砖瓦闻名，产品远销东南亚、菲律宾与台湾等地。[1]

2018—2022年，社区连续多年获评「晋江市平安村（社区）」称号。[2]
