村子四面环山，地形似湖，村名由此而来。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

明清时期此地归龙下里，民国时设湖头保。新中国建立后先隶中沙区，又归济村区，同样称为湖头乡。1958年初转属武义乡，同年10月隶武义公社，成立湖头大队。[1]

1959年2月，武义公社并入济村公社，湖头随之归属。1961年短暂改隶另一公社，1966年重归济村公社，1984年设立湖头村民委员会。[1]
