西林村是钟山镇下辖的行政村，村中山地占比大，农业以种植业为主。[1]

该村于2020年先后入选福建省第三批省级传统村落名单，并获得莆田市中级版「绿盈乡村」的认定。[1]

村中蔬菜种植自2000年前后形成规模，此后台商进入开发山地，改种甜柿。[2]

2005年，福建三业红豆杉开发有限公司把红豆杉种植项目引入村中，所用品种经分子克隆培育。[2]

境内的西漈水库蓄水，用于灌溉农田。[1]
