山前村在兴化湾南岸，紧邻后海垦区，离镇中心12公里，村南与东峤镇、埭头镇相邻。村名的来历是村前有笔架、上血、山下三座山，村后又有寿山、中山、西山等山峦。[1][3]

历史沿革[edit]

明、清时期此地在兴化府莆田县兴福里的寿山境内。1943年归莆田县南美乡，其后为莆田县第十九区的山城乡。1956年撤区并乡之后又有调整；1958年并入笏石人民公社埕头管理区。1961年政社分开，原大队分设为三，其中山前生产大队于1964年归北高人民公社。1966年与邻村生产大队合并，1984年起属北高乡，称山前村；1995年起称北高镇山前村；2002年划归荔城区。[2]

文化[edit]

2021年3月，村子进入「莆田市第十五届市级文明村镇（社区）」名单。2021年9月，本村被认定为「第二批全国乡村治理示范村」；2023年1月，司法部与民政部把山前村列为「第九批全国民主法治示范村（社区）」；2025年3月，它被命名为「第七届全国文明村镇」。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

村中的祠堂、书院和国学馆等古建筑都列为市级文物保护单位。其中陈氏宗祠始建于宋理宗年间，明代洪武年间重修，清末及近代又经修缮。[4][5][6]
