东海村是东海镇下辖的行政村，位于镇域南部，南面临灵川湾。东海镇因其原镇址在本村而得名。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

据载，1872年村民从东沙境内迁到东边居住，村名由此而来。当时由东洋、二房、东港三个自然村组成东洋生产大队。1982年因与黄石的东洋生产大队同名，又因濒海，改称东海生产大队。[1]

此后经历合作社、高级社等阶段，1958年组建为人民公社下的东洋村生产大队，1964年设乡。1984年10月改为村民委员会，属灵川乡。1988年划归莆田县灵川镇。[1]

1999年改隶莆田县东海镇，2002年起属城厢区东海镇。[1]

文化[edit]

2020年11月，东海村被认定为2020年度莆田市中级版「绿盈乡村」。2021年2月，东海村入选「福建省2018—2020年度省级文明村镇社区」名单。2021年11月，东海村获评「2021年福建省卫生村」。[1]
