茂林社区是福建省厦门市翔安区香山街道下辖的社区，由茂林村委会于2006年改制为社区居委会[1]。社区辖茂林、东坂两个自然村[1]。

历史沿革[edit]

此地旧名湖龙头：小山丘形似鳗鱼头，村前大塘好像鳗鱼即将跃入水中，所以又称鳗头。方言把“湖龙头”读作“茂林头”，后来简称茂林[1]。

清代隶属民安里蓬莱保，民国时期归仁风乡茂林保，1950年归第六区的大泽乡管辖，1955年则为洪钟区所辖[1]。1960年从中划出，另设茂林大队，归马巷公社管辖；1964年转归新店公社；1984年成为茂林村委会，隶属新店乡，1987年划入新店镇；1997年转到同安区，2003年转到翔安区，2006年改为社区居委会[1]。

人口民族[edit]

1998年统计，茂林自然村有382户、1462人[1]。

文化[edit]

清康熙年间的文举人蔡宸枫，其故里在茂林[1]。2022年底，茂林社区被福建省爱国卫生运动委员会命名为「2022年福建省卫生社区」[1]。
