湖头村地处福州、泉州两地交界处，与德化县毗邻，距永泰县城约92公里，属盖洋乡管辖。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

村委会设在山头上，地势形似湖状，村名由此而来。[1]

清代时此地属和平乡应达里三十六都，1915至1935年间划入南区。1958年成为嵩口公社盖洋管理区的湖头生产大队，三年后改隶盖洋人民公社，1984年改设湖头村委会。[1]
