据博雅地名网，此处多瓦窑，「雅陶」与方言中「瓦窑」读音相近，村名由此而来[2]。
建制上，1958年为大队，1983年改设乡，1987年改为管理区，1999年东源县政府同意设立村委会，此后未变[1]。
荣誉[edit]
2022年8月，雅陶村被确定为「2022年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位；2024年3月，获「2023年广东省卫生村」称号[1]。
