夏棠村是紫金县义容镇的行政村，四周高山环绕，形如鱼塘，原名下塘，后以谐音写作夏棠。[1]
地名与沿革[edit]
博雅地名网说，村子被群山围住，形状像鱼塘，起初称“下塘”，因与“夏棠”读音接近而写成夏棠。[1]此后的变迁是：1958年为夏棠大队，属义容人民公社；1983年成夏棠乡；1987年起归义容镇，设夏棠村委会；1989年转为管理区；管理区到1999年撤销，村委会随后恢复，名称为下夏棠村委会，使用至今。[1]
