历史沿革[edit]
博雅地名网载，村名是因村子建在碉楼西侧的洼地上，容易积水成塘，且是新建的村落。[1]1958年，新塘从黄子洞乡分出，设新塘大队；1983年设新塘乡，1987年设村民委员会，1990年改设管理区，1998年撤销管理区，重设新塘村委会，沿用至今。[1]
地理与人口[edit]
全村972.6公顷土地，耕地仅29公顷，园地1.1公顷，林地则有828.1公顷。[2]登记在册的有450户、2500人，库区移民占300户、1200人；村分10个自然村小组。[2]
2019年12月，新塘村入选国家林业和草原局公布的第二批国家森林乡村名单。[1]
文化[edit]
村里的古姓先人古成之，被认为是宋代岭南第一位进士（端拱元年，988年）。[3]2006年10月，铁炉村小组建成古成之纪念馆，占地约2000平方米，内有纪念馆、象宿亭和纪念碑；村里每年办书画班和书法比赛。[2]
