据博雅地名网所载，村名因该地由源坑、樟潭等居民点组成而来。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

此地1949年建源潭乡，1958年起改作大队，1983年又成为乡政府一级，1989年设管理区，到1999年才由村民委员会管理，沿用至今。[1]

荣誉[edit]

2017年10月，源潭村列入「第一批广东省卫生村」。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

博雅地名网把元坑足球旧址列在源潭村名下，2016年6月29日，梅州市人民政府将其公布为第四批梅州市文物保护单位[1]。据百度百科，1865年瑞士巴色差会在元坑设教会，1873年德籍传教士毕安与边得志在此办中书院，课程里有足球；国家体育总局于2015年11月确认五华元坑是内地现代足球的发源之地[2]。百度百科把该遗址写在元坑村，两处写法不同。
