西岸村是高州市宝光街道辖下的行政村，位于鉴江西面，故名西岸。全国重点文物保护单位宝光塔、宝光公园和缅茄公园都在村内。[1][2][3]

历史沿革[edit]

1956年3月调整区划后，附城镇辖有西岸乡，即今西岸村。[4]这一年，西岸与红花组过团结社；1957至1958年同北江、平山、红花一起并入「长江农业生产合作社」；1959至1960年设过西岸公社；1961年下放体制后，另立西岸大队。此后依次为西岸乡（1983年）、管理区（1986年）和西岸村民委员会（1999年）。[1]

2019年9月，村在广东省2018年「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单上。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

宝光塔由高州知府张邦伊倡建，始建于1576年（明万历四年），塔身八角九层，砖砌楼阁式，高65.8米。它1989年已是广东省文物保护单位，2019年10月列入「第八批全国重点文物保护单位」。[2][3]塔旁的宝光公园占地二十多亩。[5]

缅茄公园内有一棵缅茄树，植于明代嘉靖年间，树龄四百六十多年，高约21米，据百度百科说，是茂名地区有记载的最古老的树木。[6]
