社区名依当地居民的美好寓意而取。1996年5月，高州市政府发文，在中山街道下设立文明社区居委会，到2003年9月潘州街道设立后，保留该居委会并沿用至今[1][2]。据维基百科，高州冼太庙位于潘州街道文明社区，在文明路与光明路之间[3]。
