历史沿革[edit]
社区由黄花岗街道1953年设立的第一居委会演变而来，华乐街道1986年建立后划入，改名淘金居委会；同年分出一部分地段，另设白云居委会。[1]
明清时这里是城外的山坑和坟地。清末民初，法国人和加拿大人联合在此开办圣婴院，1951年改称反帝育婴院；1973年建白云宾馆时拆除，只留下尖顶塔形的圣母室，原在此处的烈士墓同期迁走。2007年，这一带出土了10座西汉至明清的墓葬。[2]
地理环境[edit]
淘金坑，又称淘金，范围东至华侨新村，南抵白云宾馆，西面是广州市第二十一中学，北面紧靠广九铁路，邮政编码510095。[2] 地名由来有几种说法：一说旧时有名为「淘金」的溪流经过，一说此地曾有可挖到金的矿坑，《广州市地名保护名录》则写作城外的一条暴流性山坑，相传古时曾有人在坑里淘金。[2][3] 该地名于2023年1月列入《广州市地名保护名录（第一批）》。[2]
经济[edit]
这里的白云宾馆建于1976年，友谊商店于1981年营业，花园酒店于1985年开张，丽柏广场2004年启用；商贸片区由此成形，另有世贸大厦、文化假日酒店等，住宅区有淘金南、淘金北等。[2][4] 随着珠江新城一带发展起来，淘金作为商务区的地位逐渐被取代。[3][4]
文化[edit]
2024年11月，淘金社区入选「2024年广州市充分就业社区」名单；2021年11月获列为「广州市2021年绿色社区」。[1] 邻近的华侨新村属华侨新村社区。
