历史沿革[edit]
街道所在地在1949年以前属古端乡。此后沿革依次为：划出另立，称西区；称“肇庆狮山公社”的时间是1961年；1980年，恢复肇庆市西区之名；1988年，改称端州区的西区；2010年定名城西街道。[1]
街道内社区的设置经过调整：2013年，端州区人民政府以端府函〔2013〕71号文批准设立伴月等社区；宋城社区则于当年6月由府前西、府前东等社区的部分辖区合并而成。[1][3]出头社区原属睦岗街道，自2013年4月28日起改由城西街道管辖。[5]
地理环境[edit]
博雅地名网记街道辖区面积约7.7平方千米，另一处介绍则写作7.38平方千米；该网站称街道有160条街巷、1127幢楼宇。[1][2]
经济与社会[edit]
街道办事处称，18个社区各设党组织，党员合计1913人；各社区还与98家市、区直属单位、中央和省驻肇机构及“两新”组织结成共建对子。[2]据街道自述，它是全市第一个获「全国和谐社区建设示范街道」的街道，也是全区第一个获评“全国先进基层党组织”的。[2]
名胜古迹[edit]
翕庐俗称“绿瓦桁”，坐落于正西路，门牌45号，1934年落成，是国民党将领余汉谋的兄长余骏谋的宅院，由主楼、东西附楼和后花园组成，因绿琉璃瓦顶得名。[6]2003年定为市级文物保护单位，2020年起辟作端州区博物馆，2022年7月升列第十批省级文物保护单位。[6]
肇庆古城墙在端州区宋城路，始建于1053年（北宋皇祐五年），今存城墙周长约2801米；2001年，国务院将它列入「第五批全国重点文物保护单位」。[7][8]辖区内的宋城社区，居委会设在宋城墙旁，社区即以此得名。[4]
