玉堂村的村名出自清代中期人们对此地的美称。村子四面有山岗环抱，地势开阔，人口兴旺，人们取“玉堂”二字，寓意金玉满堂。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

嘉庆年间，冯姓先人迁入此地；此后陆姓、刘姓、黄姓等相继迁来，几姓人家共居于一条垌中。建国后划为三区的玉堂行政村，1958年转作生产大队；1983年起称乡人民政府，此后又改为村委会、管理区，1999年再称村委会。建国前属永安乡，1950年划入郁南县第三区，1955年归建城区，1957年隶属通门乡，1993年起由通门镇人民政府管辖。[2]

荣誉[edit]

2019年10月，玉堂村入选「2019年广东省卫生村」名录；同年12月，获国家林业和草原局公布的「第二批国家森林乡村」名单。2020年12月，获广东省爱卫会授予「2020年广东省卫生村」称号。2023年4月，列入「2022年广东省乡村治理示范村」创建单位名单。2026年1月，获评「广东省第二批“百千万工程”典型村」。[1]
