沙亭社区位于镇乡结合区。每逢暴雨，山洪挟沙在村前堆积成沙丘，村因此得名沙亭。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
1949年为新兴县第一区的沙亭村；1951年改归南平乡；1958年10月属红旗公社；1959年归城关镇；1964年归环城公社。1984年改为环城区公所下的沙亭乡；1987年为环城乡的沙亭村；1989年6月设沙亭管理区（归环城镇）；1994年改归新城镇；2005年设沙亭社区居民委员会。[1]
