新光村位于普宁市区东南约12千米处，村子原名新墩柄，后改称今名。[1]

村名与建村[edit]

约三百年前，马姓一支迁来此地。为纪念故居，他们取村名为新墩柄，后来又改为寓意更好的新光。[1]

沿革[edit]

1960年代后期，村子曾归属邻近的管理区，1976年另立新光大队。1999年1月，经普宁市人民政府文件改称新光村民委员会，此名沿用至今。[2]

经济[edit]

村中以种植水稻、甘薯和花生为主，有家庭手工业的服装加工。[1]
