月湖村是东港镇的行政村，距县城38公里，地处惠来县西南。村名取自村前一块低洼积水的地形，形若新月。[1][2]

地名由来[edit]

村前有一片低洼积水地，形状如新月，故名月湖。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

村史始于杨氏，其后廖氏也来此定居。之后杨、廖两姓陆续迁离，改由傅氏入住，另有陈、刘两姓陆续迁入，但村名始终未改。[2]

新中国成立后，村与附近数村合为一个乡级单位，乡政府设在本村。1962年起称月湖大队，1973年东港设公社，名称照旧。[2]

1983年改设月湖乡政府，1987年为月湖管理区，1999年设为月湖村委会，沿用至今。[2]

荣誉[edit]

2019年9月，村上榜「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）创建单位」名单。[1]
