华吴村位于东陇镇，属纯农村、革命老区村，也是贫困村。村名原为“下湖”，因全村都姓吴，改称“下吴”，后雅称“华吴”。[1]

地名由来[edit]

村子地势低洼，前面有一大湖，最初名“下湖”。因村中居民都姓吴，改称“下吴”，后又雅称“华吴”。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

宋淳熙十二年（1185年），吴氏从福建莆田迁到镇内的乌石村，后分居此地。新中国成立后，本村与古巷村、石洲村合并为华石村。[1]

1953年先设华石乡，1958年为华石大队；1973年古巷村析出，本村称华吴大队；1983年成为华吴乡，1986年才是华吴村委会，1992年一度为管理区，1999年至今为华吴村委会。[1]

人物[edit]

吴良谟（1909～1981），华吴村人。他先在惠来县立中学读完初中，又赴厦门集美学校读预科，之后进厦门大学学数学两年，再转到广州的中山大学，改学物理。[1]
