地名由来[edit]
房氏从广东大埔县迁来此地置居。因地势低洼，以姓氏命名为“下房”，后雅称“华房”。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
明正统年间（1436～1449年），房氏从大埔迁来置居。[1]
1949年至1957年，村子归惠城区管辖。公社化时期（1958年至1972年）华房曾并入赤洲，当时称赤洲大队。1972年起成立华房大队；1983年至1986年为华房乡政府，1987年至1989年为村委会，1989年至1999年为华房管理区，1999年起是华房村委会。[1]
名胜古迹[edit]
华古寺坐落在华房村东头，河对岸便是神泉港。该寺创建于北宋，相传与杨文广平定“水龟洞”一带贼寇有关。寺里保存着隆庆六年（1572年）的菩萨石像刻，还有莲花宝座与石香炉。[2]
