赤山村在惠来县城东南面约5.8公里，由4个自然村组成，村委会设在新赤村。村民以农业为主，种植水稻、番薯、花生，山地多植相思、松柏和果树。[1]

地名由来[edit]

明洪武十九年（1386年），庄姓一支到此创村。村地及四周山坡都是赤红色土壤，故名赤山。明嘉靖年间，吴姓居民在旁另建一村，此后两村分称老赤、新赤。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

1949年，各个自然村都曾办过初级社和高级社。1958年至1983年公社化期间为大队，1983年设立赤山乡政府；1987年为管理区，直到1999年方定名赤山村委会。[1]
