美园村在华湖镇东北部，分为美园、红塘、宫林三片，深汕高速公路从村中穿过。该村原名山尾园，1948年改为美园。村中有彭湃在大革命时期开展革命活动的遗迹。[1][2][3]

历史沿革[edit]

明嘉靖十九年（1540年）村落已经形成，王、杨、黄、柯、蔡五姓同居。原名“山尾园”。[1][2]

民国37年（1948年）10月，华湖首个乡政府在此成立，取“美满家园”的寓意，改名为“美园”。[1][2][3]

1949年美园属华堡乡，1956年另设乡。1975年11月另设大队；1986年11月拆乡建村，三个自然村合并成立美园村；1999年改为美园村民委员会。[1]

人口与耕地[edit]

博雅地名网记全村495户，总人口3200人，劳力820人，外出务工300多人。耕地有971亩，水田占453亩，旱园518亩。[1]

经济[edit]

村中种植荔枝600多亩，主要农作物为水稻、白萝卜和番薯。2009年村民年人均收入2650元。[1][2]

名胜古迹[edit]

1927年，彭湃曾在村中活动，故居遗留的物件今由惠来县博物馆收藏，故居列为县级文物保护单位。[3]
