堡内村位于华湖镇中心，村前旧有龙潭湖，俗称下湖，雅称华湖，镇名即由此而来。村中有清代建成的堡内古寨，为广东省文物保护单位。[1][3]

历史沿革[edit]

明永乐年间（1403～1424年）林姓人家来此定居，此前已有其他姓氏居住。周围几个村子的水汇入龙潭湖，当地人称之为下湖，雅称华湖。[1]

清顺治二年（1645年），村民高廷焕在此建寨，此后村名称华湖堡，简称华堡，后改称堡内。村子曾是原乡政府、公社和镇政府的驻地，是镇里的经济和集市中心。[1][2]

人口与耕地[edit]

博雅地名网记全村有1021户，总人口6268人；耕地1000多亩，山地2800多亩。[1][2]

村民以农业为主、兼营商业，种植的作物以水稻及荔枝为主。[2]

名胜古迹[edit]

堡内古寨建于1645年，寨墙围成近圆形，占地13200平方米，设东、北二门，寨墙上有瞭望台6座。该寨在2013年4月被认定为县级文物，2015年12月10日又列入第八批省级文物保护单位。[4][5]

寨内保留有寨墙、寨门及明崇祯年间的石马桥，又称上下桥。[5]

民俗与非遗[edit]

村中有华堡小犁园大锣鼓队，春节时曾多次代表镇里到县城演出。华湖堡内的抛锣队在2009年进入揭阳市非物质文化遗产名录。[2][1]

荣誉[edit]

2019年9月，堡内村进入「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单。[1]
