南河村位于广东省揭阳市揭东区磐东街道南部，村庄是革命老区，以水稻种植、五金和服装加工为主要生计。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

村由棉树、何厝两个自然村组成。棉树为林姓村庄，元代始有林氏先人迁来定居，取名「绵樹」，后因谐音写作棉树。[1]

1949年成立磐东区南河乡。1951年，棉树等4个自然村合组一乡，因南临榕江南河而取名南河。1960年改为磐东公社的南河大队，1983年改称磐东区南河乡，1986年设立村委会。[1]

经济[edit]

村民以种植水稻为主。村地处平原，水网交织，土地肥沃，粮食产量高。工业以五金、服装加工为主。[1]

文化[edit]

赛龙舟是村中的传统民间竞技活动。20世纪50年代，村里成立的棉树文学创作组，其代表曾出席「全国青年创作积极分子代表大会」。[1]

村庄列入2018年广东省「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单，时间为2019年9月。[1]
