竹林村位于梅云街道西南端，背靠紫峰山，前有引榕干渠，西与普宁市南溪镇交界。[1]村子是二战时期的革命老区，村中设有革命教育基地。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

村子古称林厝寮，明代弘治年间有林氏在此搭寮居住，其后林氏迁往他处。[1]1950年村中设农会，划入安乐区山西乡，1956年归梅云乡管辖。[1]

1958年改为生产队，归山西管区；此后的1959年4月，改属山西生产大队。[1]1961年起，村子成为梅云公社石寮大队的一部分。[1]

1972年双寮拆分后另立竹林大队；1983年村子隶属梅云区石头乡；1986年设竹林村委会，归梅云街道。[1]

地理环境[edit]

村子东连群英、群光两村，北面有吉荣公路横贯而过。[1]

经济[edit]

全村2350人、475户，耕地794亩，山地380亩，分为2个经济联合社（博雅地名网所载，年份未注）。[1]

近年村中引来大兴、紫峰两家不锈钢公司，以及美度、雅丽鞋业等企业，过去单一务农的局面有所改变。[1]村里更换供水管道，整治排涝沟与田间灌溉系统，建成老人活动中心和竹林小学，后山约80多亩山地改为观光型果园。[1]

文化[edit]

2019年9月，竹林村列入「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单；广东省爱卫会于2023年5月授予竹林村「2022年广东省卫生村」称号。[1]
