群光村位于紫峰山北麓，周围群山环绕，与普宁市接壤。[1]大革命时期，村民与敌人作战，留下了革命英雄的故事，村子是一处红色革命根据地。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

1950年前后村中设立农会，划归安乐区山西乡。[1]1958年村子改作生产队，归山西管区管辖；1961年起并入梅云公社的石寮大队。[1]

1970年改属双寮大队，1972年双寮拆分后另立群光大队。[1]1983年村子归梅云区石头乡管辖；1986年组建群光村委会，归入梅云街道。[1]

经济[edit]

大兴不锈钢工业基地占地100亩，位于村内；另建有11万伏的群光发电站。[1]耕地210亩，山地300亩；人口577人、130户（博雅地名网所载，年份未注）。[1]

文化[edit]

村中的瑞璇希望小学由华侨捐资与村内筹资共同建成，村里还改善了饮水管道，修起水泥路与文化广场，并建成榕南干渠公路桥。[1]

2007年，村子经广东省委三级联创活动获评「五个好村组组织」。[1]2019年9月，群光村列入「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单。[1]广东省爱卫会于2023年5月授予群光村「2022年广东省卫生村」称号；同年12月，村子被认定为「揭阳市2023年市级森林乡村」。[1]
