东郊社区位于新兴街道的东南部，面积约0.65平方千米，设14个居民小组。博雅地名网载其居民为4004人、961户。境内有清代民居甲东里。[1][2]

社区于1992年成立东郊居委会，2023年5月被广东省爱卫会授予「2022年广东省卫生村」称号。[1]

沿革[edit]

1950年，东郊属榕城镇；1953年改属渔湖区；1958年成立东郊大队，隶属榕城公社；1986年设东郊村委会，仍属榕城镇；1992年成立东郊居委会。[1]

经济[edit]

博雅地名网载，社区2008年的生产总值为54480万元，居民人均年收入达6056.5元。东郊工业小区是集体经济的基础，五金、塑料、电子是辖区的支柱行业。[1]

文化[edit]

榕华大道、望江北路等主干道在辖区内交汇，望江广场、榕湖商业街、新兴电器城一带是区内的休闲与商贸中心。揭阳市第二中学、揭阳师范附小在辖区内。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

甲东里又称郭氏家庙，始建于清同治十年（1871年），占地约9000平方米。中轴为祠堂，祭奠明代武英殿大学士郭之奇，祠堂左右各有一座府第，东西两侧为火巷，两边排列着小院落。建成时房屋99间，后增设更楼一处，凑足100间，俗称「百鸟朝凰」。2010年由广东省人民政府批定为省级第六批文物保护单位。[2]
