村子始建于明代，因吴姓聚居而得名「下吴」，后雅称厦吴。[1]

村域面积0.88平方千米，现有人口2140人，耕地428亩。[1]
经济[edit]
村中有41家村办企业。2023年，村庄启动「旧厂房」改造项目，占地0.9933公顷，该方案于2025年8月获得潮安区政府的批复。[1]
文化[edit]
2019年9月，村庄列入2018年广东省「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单；2021年12月，获广东省爱卫会授予「2021年广东省卫生村」称号；2020年9月、2021年10月和2022年10月，村庄先后入选淘宝村名单。[2]
