西区社区居委会位于镇政府西北约4.3公里，面积4.02平方公里。南面隔沙滘涌与古镇镇海洲相邻，西面与佛山市顺德区均安镇天连村接壤，北面隔江与顺德南沙相望，其余方向与北区、竹源、永宁等社区接壤。广中江高速、西区路、环镇北路、祥龙路等道路穿过辖区，西城河等河道也在区内。[1]
「西区」之名，是民国初期因地处小榄以西而正式得名。2026年3月，社区被认定为「广东省第三批百千万工程典型村镇」；2022年11月，又获「2022年度第二批中山市绿色社区」称号。[1]
