民主社区是广东省中山市港口镇下辖的社区，地处镇内的商业中心圈。社区的四邻分别是：东边为东区街道，南边为石岐街道，西边为西街社区，北边为群众社区。[2]

历史沿革[edit]

社区的前身为公庙村。公庙一带位于羊蹄沙，是该沙中最早成陆的地方，约在14世纪初淤浅成陆，明洪武初年（1368年）已有人居住。明万历四十四年（1616年）此处形成村落，村里有庙，起初称宫庙，因「宫」与「公」同音，遂改称公庙，村名由此而来。[2]

1950年先称民主村，继而在1958年称大队。1961年析出新胜、新隆两村。1983年改为民主乡，1984年并入竹围大队，设民主大队。1986年12月称民主村委会，1990年12月改称民主管理区，2001年6月恢复为民主村委会，2002年3月改为民主社区居民委员会。[3]

文化[edit]

社区的党员志愿者服务队于2021年1月改用现名，队伍的前身是农民义工队，1998年成立，现有队员86名。[2]

据博雅地名网，民主村的村志始编于2003年，2006年时已写成13万字的初稿。全书21章、98节，所述时段自1368年至2005年，涵盖村风民俗与经济社会的变迁。[4]

荣誉[edit]

2021年12月，民主社区获认定为中山市绿色社区，认定年度为2021年。2026年1月，它获评广东省第二批「百千万工程」典型村。[1]
