军寨与寨城[edit]
明代中叶，此处曾设陆寨，与虎门的水寨隔海相持，后来寨城迁到这里，修筑铳台并开辟了较场，寨城因此得名山从寨城。清初滩涂淤积，守备力量难以顾及，寨城便东移至九门寨，形成山后寨城。[2]
威远炮台旧址是林则徐销烟池与虎门炮台旧址的组成部分。[3]
宗族与村落[edit]
南面村民以陈姓为主，始祖陈启南据称来自江苏常熟，与东风村陈氏同源。据民间流传，陈氏繁衍后与原居的刘姓发生争端，经讼事后刘氏迁走。[2]
清道光年间，族人陈北垣在省城经商致富，回乡办义学、修桥筑路，并捐资协助修固黄埔海防。[2]
村中原有东涌、村仔、沙塘虾、上围、下围等小村。七十年代初，村人合力凿通隧道一百多米，改善了出入的交通。[2]
改革开放后，村周围的滩涂开挖为海上养殖场，所产「南面麻虾」名闻中外。[2]
