万江社区坐落在东莞市万江街道的中心，隔江与莞城街道对望，北边与高埗镇山水相连，下辖10个居民小组。这一带过去的村名历经多次更改，最终定为万江租。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

据博雅地名网，此地在清雍正年间称作万家洲，嘉庆初年改称万家租，之后又因河道纵横的地势，改为万江租。新中国成立后，它先隶属东莞第八区，后并入附城区；1959年组建万江人民公社，下设万江大队。1988年改设万江管理区，1999年成立村委会，2005年转为社区居委会。[1]

街道办事处网站则记村改居的时间为2003年9月，与博雅地名网的记载有出入，此处两说并存。[2]

地名与村落[edit]

街道办事处网站提到，新风蟹地的得名与地形形如螃蟹有关。南宋淳熙八年（1181年），常平平板村的梁姓迁居于此；南宋建炎二年（1128年），麻涌一带的袁姓迁来袁屋基，两处村落至今都有八百多年的历史。[2]
