新基社区是南城街道下辖的社区，“新基”作为村名，据称最早见于嘉庆年间的《东莞县志》。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

明弘治年间，张氏十四世祖张士俊奉父命由大篁村迁居英村鹅掌基开基，子孙繁衍，历二百余年，村名定为新基。[1]

1961年6月，新基从附城公社分出，属篁村人民公社，称新基生产大队。1979年5月，港商在新基设立第一家来料加工毛织厂，此后台商相继落户，社区由农业转向工业。[1]
