沙塘村位于太平镇墟内，村委会下辖18个村民小组。[1]村名取原沙塘乡下白沙村、黄泥塘村的末字「沙」「塘」。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

1950年时此地叫沙塘乡。1958年，乡下辖的白沙、黄泥塘与之分立为三个大队，沙塘大队沿用原名。1976年，锁塘一片被划出，归入团结大队；1983年取消大队建制改设乡，将沙塘、锁塘、白沙、黄泥塘合并为沙塘乡；1986年改为村委会，1989年设管理区，1999年再改为村委会。[1]

2021年12月，广东省爱卫会授予沙塘村「2021年广东省卫生村」荣誉称号。[1]

人口与产业[edit]

全村1270户、4472人，耕地约1127亩，以水稻、花生为主，并养殖塘鱼。镇墟所在，商贸较为繁荣。[1]
